The Cat's Meow: What's YOUR Perfect Cat Eye Look?

September 14, 2015

Hi Lovlies,

Who doesn't love a great cat eye? It's definitely a look that can be adjusted to look appropriate for work in the day and also for night time frolics. But is there a thing as too much? Nah…. Makeup is for personal expression. My personal makeup look is usually pretty tamed for a makeup artist so I keep my cat eye moderate and simple. However, there are many options for when you wanna keep it girly and simple for work or  to bring in the drama for happy hour. Let's go over a few steps, pics and videos that will help you find your personalized feline eye.

First, let's think about eye shape. The beautiful thing is that your eye shape already gives you a great foundation to build up to your personalized style.  As you'll notice in my pictures below, I have deep set almond eyes so I prefer to always make my eyes appear larger. To achieve this, I build a thicker line starting from the middle of my eye, that tapers towards the outer end, and is  extended upwards on the corners of my eye.

I took a quick pic as an example, so please forgive me for having no makeup on. I was chilling in the house : ) If you notice, you'll see that my right eye looks larger than the left. I like to  apply my liner a little thicker on the mid to outer end of my eye, this technique complements my eyes much more. To have the appearance of larger eyes, use this tip.

When applying my liner, I usually prefer using a pencil for a quick line and ease or  gel liner with a slanted brush when I want to create a more dramatic look. Here are some great products and tools to use.

One way to achieve an awesome winged line is to use tape as a partial stencil to get a perfect line. Here's a great reference video on this cute beauty trick.

This is the semi cat eye look which is one of my go-to styles. It's great for day time to give a subtle edge.

Hi Lovlies,

My name is Ellen and I am a self proclaimed product junkie that stumbled on Makeup Artistry though my journey and decided to make it my passion and career. I am a MUA for TV/Film, Celebs and Events and a member of Local 798 the Hair and Makeup Artist Union. I love what I do! This blog is an extension of my love for my art and culture. It's my personal take on things as a BK raised "old school" New Yorker. Calling myself the "ultimate realist" my take on this beauty life is as pragmatic yet inventive as it gets.   I have experienced a lot of cool and not so cool stuff in my beauty career and it's influenced my no nonsense approach to art and culture. These are are the musings of a very colorful realist. This is the "No Fluff Zone" where we will have fun,  read a different take on beauty and learn

Enjoy!!!
